I’ve sent emails to places that I am interested in, mostly in the Chicago area.  Some have not replied, but those who did said I am too old.  I think I am drawn to a more contemplative life, not interested in missionary work, etc.  Wouldn’t mind parish work as long as I had a community to return home to at the end of the day.

Hello and welcome!  It might be helpful to know how much research you have already done in terms of finding a community.  Are you drawn to an active or contemplative lifestyle?  Have you visited any places and what were your impressions?  That kind of thing.  Thanks!

Can anyone direct me to a religious community for men which would consider a 63 year old?  I’ve wanted to be a religious for many years, but I yielded to family objections and cared for my parents instead.  My parents have both passed away now, so I am free to enter, but I can’t find an order who will consider me.  I live in Chicago, am in good health, have worked for the Church all my life (and still do) as organist/choir director/school music teacher.  I have Bachelors and Masters degrees in Organ and Church Music.  I’m looking for an order that wears the habit, that is faithful to the Magisterium of the Church, one which I can live with and pray with till the end of my days.  I would like to continue working as a Church musician and giving my salary to the order, but I would be willing to relinquish that if they so decide.  Can anyone direct me to such an order, here in the Midwest or anywhere?  Thank you.
